Message: As a young boy, I remember going to "Church Lake" to swim and chase the blue racers around. Pastor Pies was the Pastor then and Salem was on Hubbel in Detroit. Such a long time ago. My Grandfather was the Choir director and my Grandmother, Dad, and Uncle sang in the Choir.
It's good to see that the Lake is still part of the Church. Someday I will have to go back.

Message: It was quite a joy to come across your web site. To see pictures of Whalen Lake and the Richard's really brought back fond memories of both sides of the lake.
It is great to see that the traditions are still alive along with the church.

Message: Hi, I'm 71 years old now, but I went to Salem Ev. Lutheran School in Detroit when Rev. Frank Pies was in charge. Is this the same church? If so, I would like to know where that original church was. They moved to Grand River, and that is where I was married by Rev. Pies in 1956.
